Mental Health Matters. It matters to the one in four people who suffer from mental illness and to the countless families and friends whose lives are touched by it. All monies raised will be used to assist in funding “Mental Health Matters”, the 5-year strategy of St. Patrick’s University Hospital. The strategy commits to developing a wide range of new services and treatments, including Services for Adolescents, Community Mental Health Clinics (Dean Clinics), Addiction Services and Multi-disciplinary Assessment. Download it here. We need your support to make our strategy a reality. One of the services which will benefit from your vital support will be our Adolescent Service. The Adolescent Service at St. Patrick ’s University Hospital Adolescence is a time of increased risk of poor mental health for young people of all backgrounds and there are gaps in service provision, especially for 16–18 year olds. Mental illness has been described as the chronic illness of the young¹ and it has been shown that in a lifetime history of a mental disorder, half of all cases report onset by the age of 14 years and three quarters by age 24. St. Patricks University Hospital is developing its new adolescent service which will be an integrated service providing Community, Day Programmes and Inpatient services. The building of the Inpatient Unit will cost over €2 million and has an estimated running cost of around €7.6 million a year. The dedicated 14 bed inpatient unit at St. Patrick’s is scheduled for completion early in 2010, to meet the needs of adolescents who may have complex problems and require more intensive assessments and treatment. In accordance with national and international best practice and the regulations and Code of Practice of the Mental Health Commission, the in-patient unit will be an entirely separate unit from adult units. St Patrick’s University Hospital is Ireland’s largest, independent not for profit mental health service provider. St. Patrick's Hospital Group aspires to provide the highest quality of mental health care, to promote mental health and to advocate for the rights of those who experience mental illness. St. Patrick’s has traditionally funded its services through the fees received for those services. However, to maintain the highest standards and to develop new and much needed services in such areas as adolescent and community based mental health programmes, we need to seek other sources of funding. St. Patrick’s has always endeavoured to fulfil the philanthropic purpose of Dean Swift and a major aim of the Hospital is to provide services free of charge to people who might not otherwise be able to avail of them. For further information on our services please visit our website Thank you in advance for your support. St Patrick’s
University Hospital have a vision that ' we want to
see a Society where all citizens are given the opportunity
to live
mentally
healthy lives'. Making this vision a reality relies on the generosity
and support of community at large. |
